Quote:

She said I would not make it over the border being helped by an Angel but, by a Devil.

A young Honduran teenager Sayra "Paulina Gaitan", is being reunited with her father for the first time. Her father wants nothing but the best for his daughter now that they are back together. So he has saved up some money and has decided to take a trip. More of an adventure, northbound going through Central America and crossing the American border into the United States. It will not be an easy task, but worth the trouble to be in America. They head off to the train yards to catch the next train northbound toward the border.

Then there is Willy, known as El Casper on the streets of Honduras. He has been in a gang for quite sometime, learning to survive on the streets with his gang as his family. Casper tries to hide the fact that he has a new girlfriend from his gang. So he does not have to share her with them all. The leader of the gang El Sipe, does not like the fact that Capser has lied to him, and has him beat up for lying. While Casper is being beaten by his fellow gang members, the leader walks off with Casper's girlfriend and tries to rape her. She fights back, but El Sipe ends up knocking her down, accidentally killing her. El Sipe walks back and tells Casper that his new girlfriend is dead. Also that he wants him to go on a special mission with him tomorrow with El Smiley as well, a new recruit.

They travel over toward the train tracks and decide to jump aboard. Both Sayra,El Casper, and his buddies are on the train. El Sipe wants to rob the traveling immigrants sitting on the train for their money. He goes group to group scaring them at gun point demanding their money. After a robbing the first couple groups of travelers, they come upon Sayra's group. Scared to death and panicking they hand over their money. El Sipe wants more then just their money, and jumps on top of Sayra holding a gun to her head. Casper freaks out and has enough, and slits Sipe's neck pushing him over the side of the train. Casper screams at Smiley telling him to get off the train right away. Smiley reluctantly jumps off heading back home, wondering what to tell the rest of the gang. Casper is now on the run and definitely needs to watch his back.

Sin Nombre is beautifully photographed film showing the immaculate landscapes of Central America. From what I have read, no one in this film has ever acted before and they all did a great job considering. For a first film by director Cary Fukunaga, he shows promising talent and deserves every award he was given for making this film. Showing a realistic depiction of transversing across Central America, with the dream of crossing the American border for a better life. Letting the audience see that it is not easy task to make it to the United States. He also touches with the how life would be as a MS gang member, a dangerous and hard life. This is a must see film and will keep your attention all the way through.
