Quotes:

What does an alien look like?
Hey, Jack, the UFO convention's in town.
Don't go down the pimped out refrigerator Jack.
How could it be that a human who is so large in form felt so small inside?

When the star power of an action movie star starts to decline, he or she turns to either comedy as is the case of Eddie Murphy or they turn to Disney. In "Race To Witch Mountain" The Rock formally an action star has set his sights on less demanding rolls. Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) drives a cab in Las Vegas, to say he is disillusioned is an easy fact to spot. Of course he has a checkered past, he has a felony conviction and joined up with a Las Vegas mobster, leaving that behind him Jack tries to make an honest living. This of course won't do the mobster doesn't want to lose someone of Jacks driving talents, so he sends two of his henchmen, Frank (John Duff) and Marty (Bob Koherr) after Jack. Of course Jack has to use some muscle of his own, I mean come on this is the Rock we are talking about, he does have his fans to please. A mysterious object falls to Earth but is spotted by NASA, an official says to get hold of Henry Burke (Ciaran Hinds) he is in charge of a ultra secret organization. One morning after dropping off several tourist, and a Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino) who is herself a UFO expert, at a space alien convention, Jack runs into Frank and Marty, after he slaps them around a little bit, Jack drives away, Jack sensing he now has passengers in his cab stops, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig) are a pair of unaccompanied youngsters. Jack is concerned that the two want to go so far out into the desert, he is also concerned about the cost. Jack agrees to take them when he sees that they have cash. Burke and his group are searching for the downed craft, they find it and after a search think they have enough information to find the occupants. working with Burke are Matheson (Tom Everett Scott) and Pope (Chris Marquette) who plays the some what dim witted role here. They have video tape of the youngsters getting into Jacks cab and speed off in pursuit. They catch up to the cab in the desert and Jack thinking that the cars are full of more henchmen, trys to outrun them, they government cars try to force jack off the road but he escapes when Seth fades out of the cab and in front of the onrushing cars, he hardens his body and the car crashes and flips over, leaving the scene Jack takes the two to an address that looks like an abandoned house. Jack notices that the cash the two gave him is really excessive and decides to give it back, so he enters the house as the youngsters are opening a secret door behind a refrigerator, Jack goes into the pimped out fridge after the youngsters and finds himself in a fantasy world. Unknown to jack or the kids themselves, a galactic bounty hunter has followed them to this location, when he makes himself known, Jack tries to fight him and save the kids, but the bounty hunter is to strong. Just escaping the group jumps back into the cab and races away, the bounty hunter is in hot pursuit and Jack has to hide the cab in a train tunnel. Of course the bounty hunter finds him forcing Jack to drive on the train tracks right into an onrushing train. This causes the ship flown by the bounty hunter to crash. The kids tell Jack they are from another planet and show him some of the stuff they can do. Jack drives to a small diner, but it is surrounded by Burke and his men. Burke offers a trade, the youngsters for jacks freedom. The they escape by climbing onto the roof and dropping into a junkyard, Burke's men follow them. Jack being alone and with no clue as to how the kids can get to their ship turns to Dr. Alex Friedman for help, she is easy to convince, the kids just show her their planet and watch as she starts to believe. Alex tells them that if anyone knows where the ship would be it would be Dr. Donald Harlan (Garry Marshall) he is a space nut in every sense of the word. He tells the group that the ship would be taken to Witch Mountain and that the place is so hard to get into they shouldn't try, but then gives them a blue print of the facility. When the group makes it to the mountain they are soon taken into custody, Jack and Alex are gonna be driven down the mountain while Seth and Sara are taken into the mountain itself. Jack and Alex cause the driver to crash and take his jeep back up to the mountain, gaining entrance through some tunnels they find where the kids are, the bounty hunter attacks the facility as well giving jack and Alex time to rescue the kids, once back to their ship Alex has to persuade some scientists to leave, once the group is alone they climb aboard the ship and they set off. The bounty hunter of course is able to climb aboard as well and in the fight to save the ship, Jack and Seth both tackle the bounty hunter and just barely beat him, the kids drop Jack and Alex off giving them a device that will let the kids communicate with the two adults. The end credits show how both Alex and jack have become an item, not only in each others lives but in the lives of the space crowd as well, their best selling book is a huge draw at the conventions. This movie is based on a book and is a by the numbers remake of an older Disney classic. It is predictable and is just tolerable to watch. Unless you have a couple of pre-teen children, stay away from this movie, wait the few months it will take to arrive on video.
