Quotes:

The world will look up and shout "Save us!"... And I'll whisper "No."
Why would I save a world I no longer have any stake in?
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. That's always been the difference between us, Dan.

For a long time A group of superheros has been protecting the United States. Through World War II and even helped being the stop on the Vietnam War, yes the Watchmen. Its the mid-eighties and Richard Nixon has been elected to his third term as President of the United States,(I have no idea why Nixon), and a law has been passed that all superheros need to relinquish their masks and come out to the public eye for all to see. Ending their vigilante ways and open to scrutiny by the public.

One of the long time member of the Watchmen, no unmasked has been brutally murdered in his home. Throw through a plate glass window plummeting to his death. His long time friend Rorschach, "Jackie Earle Haley",    has decided to investigate and get down who is out to kill the retired Watchmen that are left.

Set in an alternate reality of 1985 in the United States, still strange as it may be. There is quite a bit tension between the USA and Russia in a cold war nuclear showdown. There is a doomsday clock setting the tension for everyone, set to five minutes to midnight for almost the whole film. Yes and Richard Nixon is still running the show for the US. It is an interesting setting to bring all these superheros into history.

Watchmen was kind of disappointing , the best thing about that movie is the blue superhero "Dr. Manhattan" , if it was not for him it would have been a total loss. Yes you have to watch him walk around half the time, letting it all hang out and I mean all out. In three hours they could have covered just about anything, any subject . I wanted to like it but, it just lacked the momentum for a superhero kind of film . It needed more action I thought. At one point i started to doze off and luckily they picked the perfect time to have an action scene . It is an interesting story, but these are not the usual superheros we are all acustomed to, like Superman,Batman, or even Spiderman. It is more of a mystery with a slight bit of romantic drama between the characters. This movie will undoubtedly make 30 million on the first weekend . I just think it will leave alot of people disappointed. It hard to say what this movie really needs, and I think it needs more high paced action. The director did put you directly into the Watchmen world , but I just expect more from superheros.

Also for the parents out there with their kids begging them to see this film, there is nudity in this movie and a couple sexual encounter scenes, just so you know. A good film if you can get past the length ;however, I do not think it will be a classic. Maybe if I read the graphic novel ,I would have liked it more.
