Quotes:

I don't think a seventeen-year-old should be traveling alone.
I would sacrifice anything for her.
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Action movies are usually of one type, the hero has to either save himself or a loved one, and this has been done to death. So when I went into see "Taken" I had little hope for it. What I found was an action/thriller with plenty of character. Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) is ex CIA, who is divorced from his wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) and spends his days trying to reconcile his relationship with his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace). On her birthday Bryan buys her a karaoke machine while her step father Stuart (Xander Berkeley) buys her a pony. To help make ends meet, Bryan joins some of his ex special forces buddies, Sam (Leland Orser), and Bernie (David Warshofsky) guarding a pop singer, when Bryan mentions that Kim is interested in singing she tells him to tell her to look for another career. At a performance an attacker tries to stab her, she offers Bryan some help after he saves her and delivers her safely to her hotel. The next day Bryan and Kim are going to have lunch, Lenore shows up and Kim asks Bryan if its alright for her to go to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy). This is the last thing Bryan wants his daughter doing, when he tells her this she runs off crying, given the time to think about what he has done Bryan reluctantly agrees to let Kim go, he has a few rules he asks her to follow, first she has to call him when she lands in Paris, she has to call him every night and she must tell him where she will be spending the night if she isn't at Amanda's cousins house. Kim agrees and they are whisked away to the airport. When the teens land, Kim is 17 Amanda is 19 they meet Peter (Nicolas Giraud) outside the airport, he offers to share a cab with the girls, of course they go to where the girls are staying first, Peter invites the girls to a party later that night, they agree, when they get upstairs Amanda tells Kim her cousins are in Barcelona, that they will have the house to themselves. Bryan calls Kim's cell because he has already verified the plane has landed in Paris and when Kim doesn't call him he takes it upon himself to call her. On his second attempt Kim picks up, for privacy she goes into a bathroom across the apartment. Kim and Amanda are abducted by slave traders in Paris, Bryan hear the abduction take place, he tells Kim what will happen and tells her to scream out anything that she can, Bryan records the abduction and sends it to Sam for him to analyze. Sam gives Bryan enough information to start the hunt, and it's here that the pace really starts moving. Before long, Bryan's in France, visiting the apartment where Amanda and Kim were staying, he finds her camera and is able to pull up an image of a guy at the airport, Bryan goes to the airport and it isn't long before he spots Peter. Bryan pushes Peter into a taxi and climbs in after him, Bryan is beating Peter senseless when an accomplish of Peter's opens the door and pulls Bryan out, Bryan starts to whip up on this accomplish as well, Peter runs from the cab and Bryan pursues him. The police start to chase Bryan as well, peter is able to jump fro ma bridge onto the roof of a truck, his freedom is short lived though. Bryan goes to an old friend Jean-Claude (Oliver Rabourdin) who is in charge of a special police unit in Paris, he asks him for help. Jean-Claude tells Bryan he sits behind a desk now. Bryan hires an interpreter so that he can find out more quickly where the girls are kept, he approaches a prostitute and gets her pimp angry enough to approach Bryan. When this happens, Bryan slaps a microphone recorder on his jacket collar, the interpreter is able to give Bryan a little information and Bryan runs with it. The information leads Bryan to a wrecking yard, Bryan walks into an area where makeshift rooms are erected, so that men can have sex with the young girls, Bryan finds Kim's jacket with another girl, he tries to take her out and all hell breaks lose, Bryan beats up and then shoots several of the gangs enforcers. He gets the girl outside just as the pimp he accosted comes out of the office, there is a shoot out and a car chase, Bryan does manage to get away, he takes the girl to a hotel that he knows of and helps her get clean, the Albanians drug the girls so they don't resist the men's advances. The girl with Kim's jacket (Helena Soubeyrand) she tells Bryan about a house with a red door and a street name, soon Bryan is walking in pretending to be more than he really is, the man who was in charge of the team that took Kim is in the house and what Bryan does to not only him, but everyone that is there as well is really worth watching. Bryan finds out from this man that Kim has been sold, she was bought so that several rich men could gather, and purchase the girls. When Bryan gets to the man's house he is at first able to get down to the basement where the auction is going on, Kim is the last girl being sold and Bryan forces the man he is in the room with to buy her. As the two men walk out the private room, Bryan is knocked out, he comes to and is told by the rich man that he can't come between his business, and that unfortunately Bryan has to be killed. As the man walks out of the room, Bryan escapes and kills everyone in the room, Bryan grabs a gun to defend himself, when he fires off a shot, the bodyguard comes back into the room and Bryan kills him, as the man who held the auction realizes that Bryan is free,he tries to say that it was nothing personal, Bryan replies that "it was all personal to me" than kills the man. Bryan runs out of the house and follows the car that Kim was put into, when he sees where the car has stopped, he knocks the driver out and drives off in the car following Kim. When he is able to jump onto the boat of Sheik Raman (Nabil Massad) he kills or knocks out all of the Sheiks bodyguards and when he walks into the bedroom of the Sheik he has a dagger around Kim's neck. It is unnecessary to say what Bryan does to this Sheik. As the movie draws to an end Bryan brings Kim home from Paris, Stuart and Lenore are waiting at the airport for them and they offer Bryan a ride home, but Bryan says he has all he needs. In Taken the action is spot on, but it all just seems to come together to easy,in classic Hollywood style.
