Quotes:

Let me bring you up to speed... We know nothing. You are now up to speed.
If I give a comment, when I said 'no comment.' I would look like a complete ass, wouldn't I?

When sequels are made to further the story, they can be really entertaining. When they are made just because the first made a little money, they are usually dull and boring. In "Pink Panther 2" its the latter case. Not one skit is new some are overplayed so much that they become dull. The strained semi-French lingo, the overly destructive karate scenes, and the unpronounceable "hamburger" gag are all overplayed.

When notorious national treasure thief The Tornado returns from years of inactivity, stealing the Shroud of Turin, The Imperial Sword, and The Magna Carta. A group of the world's finest detectives are assembled to investigate. Due to the fame garnered from his past (mis)adventures in recovering the priceless Pink Panther Diamond, Inspector Clouseau (Steve Martin) is asked to lead the team of specialists, including Vicenzo (Andy Garcia), Pepperidge (Alfred Molina), Kenji (Yuki Matsuzaki), and Tornado expert Sonia (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). With his unorthodox and clumsy method of sleuthing, it's not long before Clouseau has publicly embarrassed the team of detectives and must now simultaneously regain his image and solve the mystery, as well as attempting to foil the advances of Vicenzo on this longtime sweetheart Nicole (Emily Mortimer). Along for the ride is Chief Inspector Dreyfus (John Cleese), in as bumbling a role as Closeau's.

The story is this, when Inspector Clouseau is being sent to join the dream team the legendary Pink Panther Diamond is stolen, soon the team is hot on the trail of some old acquaintances of The Tornado. The team finds one clue after another, and soon hey believe they have solved the case, instead Inspector Clouseau doesn't buy it. The rest of the team go on the television to gloat. Clouseau is relegated to traffic duty, after a picture of him holding two kids off a balcony gets printed in he newspaper, while patrolling he spots a license plate that was seen near an earlier theft. When he realizes whose car it is he knows who is the real Tornado. What follows is pure lunacy.

The list of actors in this movie, makes it appear as a sure blockbuster, what kills it is the stupid script, the ham acting, and an overall dull feeling. The few scenes between Clouseau and Nicole are worth watching, the chase at the end between Clouseau and The Tornado is just slapstick at it's worst. One thing the writers must have found funny was the scenes between Clouseau and Mrs. Berenger (Lilly Tomlin) they gave them a seemingly endless amount of cheap lines, especially politically incorrect dialog and behavior, they have him ogling women and making a bad joke about his "yellow" friend Kenji and sushi. He embarrasses a comrade in front of others by saying "I'm sorry you cannot satisfy your wife," and of his secretary, he says to a dream team detectives: "Nicole is here to service your needs...use her in any way you wish." I just wish I had been serviced before I wasted my time with this load of tripe.
