Quotes:

Only one thing can make a soul complete and that thing is love.
I can't live without you. The thought of leaving you kills me. Do you love me?
Each of the guards would choose a certain number of women. Hanna Schmitz chose differently.

The Reader set in Germany after World War II, a young teenage boy Micheal Berg "David Kross" ,becomes sick and is helped by complete stranger. A older woman Hanna Schmitz, "Kate Winslet" takes care of him, and helps him get back home. After Micheal's bout of Scarlet Fever passes, he goes to thank her for help. While Micheal helps her around the house with some chores, they both realize there is a chemistry between each other that will not go unnoticed. This leads them into a secretive affair.

After meeting day after day, Micheal realizes that Hanna enjoys it when he comes over and reads to her, books that he has picked up from school. Countless books are read that summer, and shared between the two of them. All while continuing , their passionately involved affair, Micheal gets more detached form his high school friends and spends most of his time with Hanna. When one day Hanna disappears and is no where to be found, leaving Micheal alone and heartbroken.

Their paths get crossed once again in the future. Micheal now in law school at college, stumbles upon Hanna in a trial that his law class is covering. She is being charged along with five other women, who she worked with in a Nazi concentration camp. Tormenting Micheal emotionally the entire time, he has a difficulty dealing with her being prosecuted for war crimes. While watching the trial unfold Micheal notices that there is some crucial information being withheld that can help his past lover being convicted.

The Reader has been nominated for five Oscars. Best Cinematography, Best Directing, Best Motion Picture, Best Actress, and as well Best Screenplay. Quite a list of nominations for any film. It should almost speak for itself on how well this film was made. An amazing film that shows the unusual chemistry between Kate Winslet and David Kross during their affair. David Kross makes it so believable the awkwardness of being a young boy in love , confused about his feelings and lovers. Making the film suspenseful, with two peoples hearts on the line, both with the chance of being caught in the affair. Showing the heartbreak between these two troubled souls that just wanted to be together.Kate Winslet goes through the film perfectly from showing a confused passionate lover to a women full of regret for what she has done. The story has been delivered to the screen so well, you can not help but get involved with what is happening.Thank goodness that Kate Winslet finally won an Oscar for this film. It was about time someone realized her for her acting ability on screen.
