Baa... you have betrayed me! To be with a animal! I loved you more than anything!
No, this is just the beginning.
I should have crushed your skull under my heel when you were born.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the latest addition to the Underworld series of movies, and this time they are going backwards. To help people understand, what happened in the past between the vampires and werewolf clans. The story starts in medieval times, Lucian "Micheal Sheen", a young boy is saved by Viktor "Bill Nighty", from being killed off. Viktor is trying to breed a new race , the Lycans, half human and half werewolf. He is trying to fill a need to help him protect his kingdom and protect himself and the vampire consul. Knowing that all the vampires cannot protect the kingdom as well during daylight hours, maybe making the Lycan race will help him fill this gap. After long trials of trying to breed a perfect blend of human and werewolf. He decides that it will be too hard to make it happen, and decides to keep Lucian as a pet, enslaving many of the bred Lycans. Lucian grows up in the kingdom, entrapped as a slave and helps protect the kingdom, from the werewolves outside the walls. Killing his own kind, without any problems willfully, all while wearing a collar. Although his beliefs in this matter will not stay the same for long.

One night, Sonja "Rhona Mitra", rides back frantically towards the castle. With a group of werewolves chasing tight behind her, soldiers fire from a distance, on top of the castle walls. Trying to protect Viktor's daughter Sonja, from harms way. Lucian is helping kill off the werewolves running behind her as well; because, he has his own reasons for protecting her. After she makes it safely back to the castle, later that night, Lucian and Sonja meet up secretly. They are having an affair that her father Viktor has no knowledge of at all. There love causes conflicts and causes a rebellion, led by Lucian. It is the Lycians against Viktor, and the other vampires and the war begins.

I was expecting quite a bit more from this film. After having liked the first and second film . Although there does not seem to as much care or time put into this one. It could be that they changed directors for this movie. There is plenty of battle scenes between vampire and werewolf; however, the movie kind of dragged most of time, only picking up speed during the battle scenes. I found myself begging for a battle scene just to speed up the film .Also almost everyone that was killed was either slashed in the neck or decapitated. If any of the characters just wore armor around their necks,  they would still be alive. It does tell the story and closes some loose ends. Even if some scenes in the film seemed almost completely pointless and should have been left on the cutting room floor. Quite a bit of action and copious amounts of blood during battle rap up the history of Underworld. If you are a fan of Underworld you might like this film, but you might be disappointed when comparing it to other films in the series. Anyone else who wants to see this, go rent the first two movies of the series and enjoy those instead.
