In the movie "The Secret Life of Bees" stars as the main character "Dakota Fanning" playing Lily, a young southern girl in the 1950's dealing with living at home with her hateful father. At a young age she was involved in a accident where she accidentally shot her mother by picking up a gun that was dropped on the floor. Well it seems that ever since, she had been living with her father that torments her by punishing her with verbal and physical abuse, tormented still by the loss of his wife.

Lily is primarily being watched by "Jennifer Hudson" playing Rosaleen her housekeeper at home while her father tends to their peach farm in the south. The movie takes place during the civil rights movement while African Americans were just given the right to vote . Well on Lily's birthday, Rosaleen sees this as a chance to take Lily into town for her birthday and a chance to go register to vote for the upcoming Presidential election. They end up getting confronted in town which, causes some trouble with the law  and the locals. Lily decides to help Rosaleen by running away together to go find more information about her dead mother with some evidence she has of left over belongings of her mother.

This movie is very heartfelt and emotional, as you experience the indifference that all the characters are having in the film . Between the civil rights movement, Lily trying to deal with the facts about her mother being dead and, her father hating her. Also with the interaction between people of different races at that time in America during the 1950's . Queen Latifah does a great job at supporting the main character and I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't win an award. It is a real tearjerker. Chick flick movie of the year and should come with Kleenex with your tickets. A great movie for the women in your family or your whole family to go see together .

Most movies that I see that also have a book usually leave me saying that the book was better but 4 this movie that was not the case!I just wish I had gone with my mom and sisters and not my friend.
